Police see a lot on the job, but it's not every day a suspect they are after steals an ambulance with a paramedic and patient still inside the vehicle.

The whole scene was caught on a dash cam in a Michigan city with the suspect being charged with seven felonies.

In my lifetime, the most famous police pursuit was when O.J. Simpson allegedly killed his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The Los Angeles Police Department were chasing him in the infamous Ford Bronco in a low-speed chase.

I remember seeing this on TV and watching a former football hero of mine being chased and couldn’t believe this was happening in real time.

Since that chase, television networks have aired shows that feature police chases caught on camera, and any time a news outlet can catch a pursuit in real time from a helicopter it makes it to the TV.

According to WXYZ TV, an ambulance was called to the scene of the crash, and as police were investigating the accident scene, the at-fault driver who was identified as 33-year-old Changlin Li returned to the scene and took pictures of his car. Li then jumped in the ambulance and fled the scene with a paramedic and the injured driver of the other vehicle inside.

The suspect took the ambulance through a construction zone and somehow avoided crashing into any of the work vehicles and workers.

Once Li crashed the ambulance, police had to restrain him and during that time the ambulance caught on fire.

Luckily police were able to get the paramedic and patient out of the ambulance just before it was engulfed into flames. You can watch the full dashcam footage below.

Li was charged with seven felony counts and issued a $5 million cash bond that did not allow a 10% payment to get released. When police went to his home they confiscated his long guns after his roommate claimed Li suffered from mental health issues.
