Michigan Man Leads Police on Chase Across Mackinac Bridge, Attempts Carjacking
It's hard to guess how many laws this guy broke... A Northville man's Northern Michigan "road trip" took a sharp turn into "This actually happened??" territory earlier this week.

27-year-old Jack Maibach turned what could have been a routine traffic stop into a nearly 30-mile police chase, complete with a bridge dash, a toll booth crash, and an attempted carjacking.

The chaos began May 20. According to the Emmett County Sheriff's Office, around 2p.m. deputies clocked a vehicle speeding south of Pelliston. They attempted to pull the car over, but the driver apparently had other plans. Plans that included refusing to stop and racing toward the Mackinac Bridge. Out of safety concerns, the police called off the chase near the bridge and alerted Mackinac and St. Ignace authorities that Maibach was headed into the Upper Peninsula.
According to The Detroit News, he continued to evade police and at one point crashed into a gate arm of a toll booth before continuing north on I-75.

If Maibach had surrendered at this point, he'd still have a stack of charges, but instead he kept his crime spree going. At some point, police lost sight of the car, but then it was found disabled near the Mackinac Straits Hospital. That's when things went from reckless to truly terrifying.
Maibach allegedly attempted to carjack a woman who had a child in the car. Thankfully, she was able to drive away, but it had to be so scary as Maibach clung to the outside of her car before falling off. Like, did this guy think he was in a movie?
Police eventually tracked Maibach to the parking lot of a Hampton Inn. By now you can probably guess he did not surrender peacefully. Police say he violently resisted arrest. Finally though, Maibach was taken into custody.

The Detroit News reports that he's been arraigned on felony charges of carjacking, assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer, plus fourth-degree fleeing a police officer. His bond has been set $25,000. Maibach is set to appear in court next on June 3.
