Free Bike Helmets for Kids at Lids for Kids in Grand Rapids

The weather is warming up and the kiddos are going to want to be getting out on those bikes! Make sure they're set with a helmet at an event coming up in Grand Rapids.

Lids For Kids Michigan

Lids For Kids is a free bike helmet giveaway and bike safety event across the state. Since its inception in 2003, Lids for Kids has distributed more than 12,000 bicycle helmets to children in Michigan.

While the Traverse City Lids for Kids has been postponed in 2024, there are upcoming events in Lansing and Grand Rapids.

Lids for Kids Grand Rapids 2024

Lids for Kids is coming up June 1, 2024, 10a.m. to 12p.m. at Garfield Park in Grand Rapids. The event will be held near the Burton and Jefferson entrance.

City of Grand Rapids

Children will be properly fit for bike helmets by trained professionals and volunteers. Kids will then receive helpful bicycle safety tips and receive a free bike helmet.

There's also a raffle with lots of prizes, including the chance to win a free bike!

Attendees can meet local law officials and firefighters, tour a fire engine, and take in fun activities and games.

Outdoor Games, Gear, and Equipment You Can Rent for FREE From Grand Rapids Gear Library

Grand Rapid Parks and Recreation recently added skateboards to the Thrive Outside Gear Library. Did you know about all the cool stuff you can rent for free? Just about anything you'd need for a camping trip you'll find in the Gear Library at Roosevelt Park Gym, plus team sports equipment, clothing, picnic supplies, even gear for cold weather activities too! The Gear Library is located at the gym at Roosevelt Park at 739 Van Raalte Dr. SW in Grand Rapids. The library is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
