Last Time The Lions Won a Playoff Game On The Road Was 1957
We have heard a lot about the last time the Detroit Lions won a playoff game at home before this season was in 1992, but the last time they did it on the road was 1957.
Last Detroit Lions Playoff Win On The Road
The last time the Detroit Lions played and won a playoff game on the road was in 1957 and ironically it was against the San Francisco 49ers. This Lions beat the 49ers 31-10 to win the NFC Championship.
It was November 17, 1957, the game was played in Detroit at Briggs Stadium. This was back before there was a Super Bowl.
This was also the last time the Lions won an NFL Championship before the "Curse of Bobby Layne" when they beat the Cleveland Browns 59-14. What is the "Curse of Bobby Layne?" The year after they won the NFL Championship they traded their quarterback Bobby Layne to the Pittsburgh Steelers and legend has it he cursed the team for 50 years because of it. That curse has hung on for 67 years.
Detroit Lions Face The San Fransisco 49ers 67 Years Later for NFC Title
Fast forward to 2024 and the Lions are back on the road to play against the 49ers for the NFC title game.
Hopefully, the Lions can break the Curse of Bobby Lane, when they take on the 49ers this Sunday in San Francisco. It has taken 67 years for this game to happen again and all of us Lions fans are hoping for the same result as in the game in 1957 with a victory and a trip to the Super Bowl. GO LIONS!
