Guy Who Got Detroit Lions 2024 Super Bowl Champs Tattoo Is Still Going

The year is 2023. Dan Campbell is named Coach of the Year. The Detroit Lions win the division title for the first time in 30 years and won two playoff games to reach the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991. At halftime, the Lions were ahead 24-7, dominating the game. I even ordered a new Lions sweater during halftime because I was so confident they were going to the Super Bowl.

But then the 49ers scored 27 points straight and beat the Lions 34-31, crushing the dreams of Lions fans everywhere. But the thing is, a sweater can be taken off at any time. One fan thought 2024 was the Lions' year, and things got a bit awkward when they lost and he'd already gotten a 2024 Super Bowl Champs tattoo.

He got the tattoo in August of 2023, and on his initial post on Reddit, someone joked that "all he has to do is put a line through the year and tattoo the next year underneath it." Well, Alex Chepeska from Rochester Hills took that to heart and has done this every year since. 

2027 And Counting

After the Lions failed to reach the Super Bowl in 2024, Alex was quick to amend the tattoo to add 2025, which looked great, considering the Lions went 15-2 and earned a first-round bye in the playoffs... only to be upset at home by the Commanders. Then he did it again for 2026, but the team failed to reach the playoffs in a disappointing year. Did that stop Alex?

Nope. I spoke with Alex and asked him about his plan for the tattoo. Would he just keep updating it until the Lions get a Lombardi Trophy, until he runs out of arm?

I'm gong to update it until Super Bowl or death. I have way more arm left than life, so arm length isn't a concern.

Alex said people typically react to the tattoo in two ways: either by being excited to meet him or by calling him "stupid" and claiming he's jinxing the team."If I believed it was a jinx, I'd get every other team's logo with Super Bowl Champs under it to curse them. I'm not superstitious, just stitious," he said.

Is 2027 the Lion's year? Despite seeing a lot of negative talk about the offseason lack of moves, Alex feels like it's all gonna work out.

I've never been more certain of anything in my life. It's happening!
