Less than a year after opening, a Grand Rapids Chicago-style eatery has permanently closed.

Jack Danger's Chicago-Style Italian Beef first opened at 1499 Wealthy St. SE in Grand Rapids Eastown neighborhood in September of 2023.

At the time, owners owners Cathleen and Steven Lowenthal told Wood TV 8 they wanted to bring a "Chicago Experience" to Grand Rapids. They described the restaurant as "true Chicago - with an eclectic vibe of 80s music videos, Chicago sports, and real Chicago street food".

Steve, a former DJ and veteran of the restaurant industry is a native Chicagoan (the restaurant's logo is a caricature of Steve, drawn by a fellow Chicago DJ in the the 80s).

His wife Cathleen is from Rockford, Mich. and a former Grand Rapids Police Officer.

Jack Danger's served sandwiches like Italian Beef, Italian Sausage, Meatball, and Crispy Chicken. The menu also included Chicago-style Hot Dogs, Crinkle Cut Fries, Tater Tots, Beer Battered Onion Rings, and Chili Cheese Fries.

On June 10, 2024 a post to the restaurant's Facebook page announced its permanent closure, stating "Thank you to everyone that frequented our restaurant! We are now closed for good in Grand Rapids."

While a reason for the closure was not immediately given, someone commenting under the restaurant's handle stated, "A lot of people just didn’t come into this area on a regular basis."
