Remember When They Filmed Batman v. Superman in East Lansing?

I was working on my East Lansing past and present article when I saw a picture of the Broad Art Museum that made me stop and think, "Oh yeah, that did happen there, didn't it!".

The thing that happened:

Warner Bros. filmed part of the "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie there!

Do you remember when Warner Brothers came to Michigan State to film for the new Batman movie? Even though the filming took place back in October of 2014, I still remember the buzz that took over the whole of downtown East Lansing when the film crews came in to set up. It was electric!

Like most movie shoots, crews tried to keep things under wraps in various ways; the signs that showed the way to where filming took place didn't bear the name of the movie (they did have the name of another, pretend movie on the signs - another form of deterrence), giant fencing and bushes were set up around the perimeter of the Broad Art Museum, roadblocks were put up on certain stretches of campus next to the museum, and security was tight.

Everyone was hoping to catch a glimpse of Amy Adams (Lois Lane) or Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman), but I was on the hunt for a glimpse of Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman). So I devised a plan...

While working at a local sandwich place, part of my job was to pass out free samples of our sandwiches. I thought, who doesn't love free food? So, I figured I'd use that as an excuse to worm my way on set. And it worked! I was able to get past the barricades and onto the set, led by a very friendly (and hungry) security person. However, just mere feet away from the cast, the head security person decided I had come far enough, and that he'd instruct the extras to come up to me to get free food. Not exactly what I had hoped for, but I did get a little sneak peek of how they make the movie magic, and boy was it cool.
