Safety Guidelines When Bathing a Baby
Giving your newborn a bath is one of the most special things you do for your child in the early stages of life.
There are some straightforward guidelines you should go by when bathing your infant and they are listed below:
- Keep the room warm so your baby does not get cold.
- Bathe your baby quickly to avoid chilling.
- Keep water temperature around 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.8 degrees Celsius.
- Test the water with your elbow or a bath thermometer before placing the baby in the water.
- Support the baby's head and neck with one hand while gently washing the body with a mild baby cleaner using your hand.
- The most important of all things to do while bathing a baby is to NEVER LEAVE YOUR BABY ALONE IN ANY AMOUNT OF WATER.
Grand Rapids Mother Charged After Baby Dies in Bath Water
You can't leave your baby unattended in any amount of water but unfortunately, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids mother by the name of Olivia Miller allegedly did just that.
According to WOOD, Miller changed her story several times to investigators who determined she left the baby in a few inches of water and left the water running to check some laundry but when she returned the 8-month-old was found floating face up with his face underwater.
Miller has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
