
The Most Pet-Friendly Rental Market in America Is in Michigan
Looking for a place to rent that accepts pets? One Michigan city in particular leads the nation in available properties.
The personal finance website WalletHub recently released its list of America's "Most Pet-Friendly Cities in 2024". Study authors considered a wide range of criteria, including the monetary ramifications of being a pet owner in each city; the most suitable places for the optimal health and wellness of pets; and how outdoor pet-friendly each city is.

Detroit actually fares rather poorly in the survey as a whole - landing among the ten least pet-friendly cities in the country. It ranks near the bottom in the number of veterinarians per capita, the number of pet businesses per capita, the number of dog-friendly restaurants per capita, the number of dog-friendly shops per capita, and average home square footage.
However, there's one area where Detroit absolutely shines.

Detroit leads the nation in the pet-friendliness of its rental market, according to WalletHub.
Finding Pet-Friendly Rental Properties in Detroit
A cursory check of the real estate website Trulia reveals more than 200 dog-friendly single family homes currently available for rent in Detroit, and more than 170 that are willing to accept cats. Some are available for as low as $825 a month.
Even more pet-friendly units are available if you're searching for an apartment or a townhome.
One of more than 300 dog-friendly apartments in Detroit can be rented for as little as $725 per month. Cat-friendly apartments and townhomes in Detroit are even more plentiful - more than 350 were available when we checked, some for as little as $550 per month.
And that's just in Detroit proper! The number grows even further when suburbs are considered. No other city in America can boast a rental market as pet-friendly.
