Michigan City Ranked as One of the Nations Five Filthiest
Some cities can't catch a break, and LawnStarter's annual ranking of America's Dirtiest Cities proves that Detroit, Michigan, is one of them. Each year, LawnStarter does a deep dumpster dive into the nation's dirt, trash, and chaos, and Detroit was sifted out as the fourth filthiest.

LawnStarter looked at key filth factors, including pollution, living conditions, infrastructure, and overall consumer satisfaction. Guess what? Detroit didn't score too well in any of those categories.
Detroit's Overall 'Hygiene' Needs Some TLC
According to LawnStarter, Detroit is not only the fourth dirtiest city in the country but also one of the most polluted. The study looked at commercial and residential pollution output, and the Motor City ranked as the eighth most polluted in the USA.
While living conditions in Detroit have vastly improved over the last several years, they still leave a lot to be desired. The city was ranked 35th for living conditions. As more homes are renovated or rebuilt, look for this score to be higher in next year's rankings.
Can Detroit's overall cleanliness be improved? Absolutely, and relatively quickly, too. While Michigan's largest city didn't see the improvement some major metros did during the COVID-19 pandemic, many others did.
