There have been some great promotions in our time, but one of the most popular and look forward to promotions is that which was created by 711. The "Bring Your Own Cup" Slurpee Day promotion has prompted people to bring in everything from sandboxes to children’s plastic pools in an attempt to fill up dozens of gallons of Slurpee mix for a few dollars.
Now there is a promotion which is challenging the greatness of that one, as a Michigan movie theater has announced. They will be celebrating National Popcorn Day with five-dollar buckets of popcorn on January 19.

The theater chain Cinemark Theatres is telling moviegoers that on that date they will be participating in a “bring your own bucket” event which will allow people who go to the movies that day the ability to bring anything they choose and use it as a bucket.
Although the theaters are reserving the right to refuse any bucket that they feel is a potential health risk or unsanitary, they are basically saying that anything can be used as a bucket.
Their website even tells people to show some creativity, or simply bring something like a grocery tote bag. This could potentially be one of the highest-selling popcorn days in movie theater history. Do you remember those play-pin buckets with the rope handles?
Well, unfortunately, like the 711 promotion, this theater learned its lesson with the crazy things that people bring in, so they are cutting people off at around 400 ounces or less as far as the bucket is concerned which is just over 3 gallons.
But if that doesn’t bother you, and you still want to take part in the action, you can visit the following Michigan locations, and take advantage of this event.
  • Flint Cinemark Flint West 14, 1591 S. Graham Road
  • Taylor Cinemark Southland Center and XD, 23000 Eureka Road
  • Ypsilanti Cinemark Ann Arbor 20 and IMAX, 4100 Carpenter Road

The World's Largest Popcorn Ball

I don't know about you but when I travel I spend time taking in the local flavor of the places I'm visiting. It so happens I get a real kick out of small-town roadside attractions.
