Ferris State Football Team Arrives Home With Another Trophy!

Sunday morning, the Bulldog football team arrived at Grand Rapids Ford Airport, bringing with them their second straight championship trophy.

Saturday afternoon, the Ferris State Bulldogs rolled over Colorado School of Mines, 41-14, to earn their second straight national title. The team landed at GRR Airport early Sunday morning, their eyes red from a night of celebrating.

From there, the team received a police escort as the team busses drove into Big Rapids where the school is located.

Quarterback Carson Gulker scored three touchdowns to pace the Ferris State offense Saturday, but the big story was the Bulldogs defense, who intercepted Harlon Hill Trophy winner (Division II player of the year) John Matocha twice, sacked him six times and held the Orediggers to just four rushing yards for the entire game.

The Bulldogs became the first Division II school to win back-to-back National Championships since Northwest Missouri State in 2015 and 2016.

Former Muskegon area football foes, Brady Rose and C.J. Jefferson were huge contributors to the offensive attack on Saturday, and bragged about being from the football mecca of West Michigan.

Jefferson of Muskegon High and Rose of archrival Mona Shores told WOOD-TV they pushed each other to be great:

“That’s what we do in our city. Just like the state championship,” Jefferson said.

 

“Me and CJ, across from each other, we’re both from Muskegon. Muskegon ball is different,” Rose added.

 

“CJ is a really great player, Brady is a great player too. Everyone knows he was the Michigan Player of the Year when he was a senior in high school,” said Coach Tony Annese.

 

“Most Michigan Players of the Year are recruited by Michigan, Michigan State. But Brady’s 5’7″ or 5’8″. Everyone thinks he’s someone who can’t play at a high level and you saw him today. Brady Rose is a complete winner and so is CJ Jefferson.”
