What Happened? Famous Tunnel of Trees Roadway Collapses!
Northern Michigan was blessed with lots and lots of snow this past winter. The ski resorts were rejoicing because the past few winters have been rather dismal for skiers and the slopes were nearly empty at times.
But with the good news comes the bad news. All of that snow had to melt and go somewhere. Couple all of that with unexpected heavy rains, and you get more than just pot holes. You say bye bye roads!

Sadly, the Good Heart General Store wrote on their Facebook page that an area of Tunnel of Trees, M-119, has collapsed due to excessive rain fall combined with snow melt (just south of Division between Cross Village and Good Hart).
Good old spring erosion is not anyone's friend, especially when beloved areas wash away endangering the population around it.
Click on Detroit.com wrote that "multiple areas in Northern Michigan are under flood watches and warnings, including Clare, Mecosta, Osceola, Lake, Mason, Newaygo, Cheboygan and Oceana counties, as well as the entire Upper Peninsula. And also that flash flood warnings are in effect for areas in Manistee and McKinley."
My wife Susie and I have driven the beautiful Tunnel of Trees. It is a part of M-119 driving high above Lake Michigan between Harbor Springs and Cross Village. People come from miles around just to make this fabulous drive.
Summer is so cool since it's even tough to see the sky because the leaves are so thick. We love it especially in fall when the maples turn bright red and gold. There is nothing like it.
Prayers with all folks "up north" and hope that they are able to repair it soon!
