Summer is quickly coming to an end, with many Michigan kids heading back to school in a few weeks

If you're planning on getting in one last trip to your favorite beach for a day of fun in the sun, you should check first to make sure that the water you and your family are getting into is safe and not full of harmful or potentially deadly bacteria.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has a great Beach Guard Website that they constantly update with the latest water tests so you know what beaches are safe to swim in and which ones to avoid.

At the time of this article being published there are 12 beaches in Michigan that are closed or have advisories to stay out of the water.

Dumont Lake Park Beach in Allegan County has been under a contamination advisory since July 9 due to high levels of E. coli from runoff.
East Jordan Tourist Park in Charlevoix County has been under a contamination advisory since July 29 due to high bacteria levels due to an unspecified source.
