Is the ‘Detroit Smell’ Travelling Now?

Recently, residents of the east side of Michigan were complaining they smelled poop and now the smell seems to be traveling to nearby states.

East Side of Michigan Smells Like Poop

Many Michigan residents on the east side of the state ranging north of Detroit to Ann Arbor complained they smelled poop. Some residents thought they stepped in something and checked their shoes while others who have long drives to work noticed the poop smell in multiple cities.

The poop smell around Detroit was during September and October when it was really dry before the recent rainfall and high winds at the end of October and the beginning of November. Now some of the neighboring states are complaining about the poop smell.

Is the 'Detroit Smell' Travelling Now?

Now residents of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and even California are complaining they are smelling poop too.

What's on the other side of Lake Erie? Cleveland and they are saying there is the smell of poop in the air.

A Reddit poster on the Detroit Reddit page with the handle, 'Sneacler67' said, "Maybe it's from Lake Erie." I can see why someone would say that; no doubt stinky things are being put into that body of water.

Reddit poster 'joaoseph' made a solid point (see what I did there?) when they said, "It hasn't been raining much which clogs up the sewage system and makes it smell. It's also been hotter and more humid on average year over year making the stink linger and travel."

Aside from some blaming either side of American politics for the stench on the Reddit thread. 'LakeEffekt' said, "We had that gross ass smell in Cali like a week ago." That is pretty far for the poop smell of Detroit to blow.

Just like in the first story about the east side of Michigan smelling like poop, the same conclusion is probably the reason for the poop smell in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and California. Farmers just outside major cities spreading manure and human waste on their farm fields are likely the poop smell culprit.
