Michigan has historically produced more than 1.248 billion barrels of oil. Although it is not a leading producer like Texas, the state still holds substantial untapped resources. Over the next 20 to 30 years, it is estimated that 6 to 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas could be produced, alongside ongoing oil extraction. Most of this activity is concentrated in the Lower Peninsula.
In Michigan, the greatest concentration of oil deposits is located in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula, particularly in Kalkaska, Otsego, and Manistee counties. Additional significant concentrations are found in the southern Lower Peninsula, especially in Calhoun, Jackson, and Hillsdale counties.

There is yet another Michigan county where owning land could be especially appealing, given its notable concentrations of crude oil.
Ionia County Land May Hold Valuable Oil Deposits
According to WOOD-TV, two new oil wells just east of the Kent County border have begun producing fresh crude. West Bay Exploration Company has invested several million dollars to drill in Ionia County in hopes of a large discovery.
Several Ionia County residents have signed over their mineral rights while many others are talking and considering the same idea.
