Growing up in South Haven, one of the closest malls to us was Westshore Mall in Holland. We went there a lot when I was kid, so it's been sad for me to see the shopping center's decline in recent years.

In February, WZZM-13 reported that Westshore Mall, which once had more that 60 stores, was down to seven.

Well, now it's been confirmed that Westhore Mall is getting a makeover. According to WZZM-13, a $20 million de-malling and renovation project will break ground June 11 at 2p.m.

Mall investors say the result will be very similar to the renovations done at Centerpointe Mall in Grand Rapids: The enclosed mall will be transformed into an outdoor shopping center known as The Shops at Westshore.

So far, plans include renovating the main building, constructing four new buildings closer to U.S. 31, and creating pedestrian walkways and outdoor seating areas.

No word yet on what stores are coming to The Shops at Westshore, however, in minutes from a November 11, 2014 Holland Planning Township Commission meeting, mall investors did say the three current anchor stores,Younkers, Dunham’s and JC Penney, and other remaining stores would stay open during construction.
