The Michigan Department of Transportation released a map of their 2017 road projects today.

If you normally head north on the weekends, it could be a slow go from Grand Rapids up to almost Big Rapids. Three different projects will take place on US-131 beginning in March.

The first project begins this month and will reconstruct 3.5 miles of US-131 from M-46 (17 Mile Road, Cedar Springs exit) north to the Montcalm/Mecosta county line. Drivers can expect lane closures. This project will run until sometime in August.

In April, construction will begin to improve bridges at M-46 (17 Mile Road) and over White Creek Avenue. It will also reconstruct 3.6 miles of US-131 from 14 Mile Road to White Creek. Drivers can expect lane closures and a traffic shift. The project is scheduled to be completed in November.

September will also have construction work on 4.3 miles of US-131 from the Kent/Montcalm county line north to Cannonsville Rd. You can expect lane closures on this project as well.

Other notable projects in the Grand Rapids area:

A three-mile stretch of M-6 will be rebuilt from Jackson Street to Wilson Avenue. During construction, M-6 will be closed with a detour in place. The project will start in July.

Heading from Grand Rapids toward Muskegon and you will encounter construction on I-96 as MDOT works to resurface 4.3 miles from 112 Avenue to 68th Avenue during the months of July and August.

South of Grand Rapids, workers will be improving the 84th Street bridge over US-131. You can expect lane closures on US-131 in that area from June through August.
