Have You Heard of the Planetary Parade?
It seems like every year a term pops up about stargazing that I had never heard of. Have you heard of the "Planetary Parade?" You can see it now through the end of January.
Michigan Has Lots of Areas Great for Stargazing
Certainly stars can been seen on a clear night all over Michigan, but there are places that are better than others in getting a great view.

Most of Michigan's major cities are located in the lower half of the Lower Peninsula. I mention this because the lights from cities make it more difficult to stargaze. From north of Grand Rapids and Saginaw all the way across the Upper Peninsula is where you can get the best chances to see stars, planets, meteor showers, and comets because there is less light from cities.

What is The Planetary Parade and When Can You See It?
You've heard the term "When the planets are aligned" right? There is a planetary event that occurs every few years this is the time of year to see it.
The planetary parade involves Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. No the planets are not in a perfectly straight line but appear to be from our view from Earth.
According to WXYZ, for the rest of January if the night is clear you may be able to see Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune with the naked eye about 45 minutes after sunset, and when it's completely dark.
A telescope will make it easier to see all six planets since Uranus and Neptune may be a bit dim to the naked eye. If it's clear night and dark enough and you are far from city lights you can see all six with no telescope.

To spot the planets look to the southwest for Venus and Saturn, the southeast for Jupiter, and Mars will be in the east. You may need the telescope for Uranus and Neptune but they will appear in the similar line with the others. My son and I will be looking tonight and hope you do too.
