GRPS to Hold COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Students Next Month

With kids ages 12 and up now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine, Grand Rapids Public Schools are offering clinics to help students and their families get vaccinated.

Fox 17 reports that students 12 and over are eligible, as well as their parents or guardians.

GRPS is partnering with the Kent County Health Department and Walgreen’s for the upcoming clinics:

• Ottawa Hills High School Gymnasium – June 2 from 2-8 p.m.
• Innovation Central High School – June 3 from 2-8 p.m.
• Union High School Gymnasium – June 4 from 2-8 p.m.

Appointments are required and can be made on Walgreen's website here. You can also follow this link to scan a QR code.

The guidelines from GRPS are:

• Students age 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at the time of vaccine administration.
• Students age 18 or older must have proof of age (student ID, drivers license, birth certificate, etc.) and do not require a parent/guardian to be present.

GRPS asks that you complete a consent form ahead of time to minimize wait time.

Meijer is accepting walk-ins at their pharmacies, so no appointment is necessary.

Two West Michigan doctors, Dr. Rosemary Olivero, Pediatric Infectious Disease Physician at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and Dr. Liam Sullivan, Infectious Disease Physician at Spectrum Health, have recently shared their support for vaccinating kids 12 and up.

In a media call earlier this month, both doctors pointed out multiple times that the safety of the vaccine has been proven by rigorous testing and FDA requirements, and that very few instances of serious side effects have been reported as the millions globally have received the vaccine.
