Summer Forecast Predicts A Hot, Dry Summer in Grand Rapids
With summer officially starting this week, we're saying goodbye to one of the most turbulent springs in recent memory. While this has been a stormy season, things are looking pretty different in the months to come.

Grand Rapids' typical summers, which run from June 20th to September 22nd, typically average temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s, with July averaging the hottest temperatures of the year (including the hottest day of the year, July 19th). However, Spring is ending on a heat wave that predictions say may persist for the rest of the summer. Here's what you need to know.
Hot Summer Coming For Grand Rapids?
If you're a fan of hot summer days at the beach, there will be plenty of those to come. The Weather Company and Atmospheric G2 have released their summer temperature forecast, predicting above-average temperatures for July to September.

Grand Rapids' Drought Continues
While the warmer weather makes for a good day for a grillout, there's a catch. Despite the more severe storms throughout the spring, much of West Michigan has been in a bit of a drought. The Weather Company is predicting below-average rainfall for the remainder of the summer, which suggests that drought is likely to persist or intensify. Again, these are just predictions.
What This Means For You
If the heat is expected to rise and stay high, then you need to be aware of your surroundings. Never leave your dog or children in the car, as the temperature inside the car can rise quickly and become deadly in as little as 20 minutes. Your AC at home is going to work harder to keep you cool; your wallet might thank you now if you choose to keep it off for now until the warmer days arrive.
More importantly, if the rainfall is below average and the grass begins to dry, all bonfires and grilling on grass should be halted. That extends to fireworks on the Fourth of July. Keep an eye on announcements from the State of Michigan regarding fire conditions.
