Since the announcement that an outdoor amphitheater and a soccer stadium were being built in downtown Grand Rapids, the question everyone has been asking has been, "What are we going to do about parking?" Many in West Michigan feel the city is not prepared for the influx of people trying to park there.

To remedy this, the city has created a new parking reservation system that allows would-be concert or sports game attendees to ensure there will be a spot waiting for them downtown.

Grand Rapids's New Parking System

In an attempt to control traffic downtown as much as possible, the City has created both a new reservation system and a new venue parking "access guide" to show visitors to downtown the closest parking areas, the parking prices, and the distances from the venue for their event. It's a pretty nifty page.

But the reservation system is what is truly quite nifty. The parking reservation page lists all upcoming events at the four major venues in Grand Rapids (Acrisure Amphitheater, Van Andel Arena, Amway Stadium, and DeVos Place).

From there, it brings up a map showing nearby city-owned parking lots and ramps, with a parking pass available for reservation. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance.

It doesn't necessarily address the concern about whether there will be enough parking for everyone, but with a sold-out concert at the Van Andel the same night as the Amphitheater's debut concert, this system will be put to the test right away.

Do You Remember These Legendary Shows At The Delta Plex?

At one point, the DeltaPlex was the largest venue in West Michigan, able to hold up to 7,000 people. The arena was open from 1998 to 2022, and in that time, it hosted some of the biggest names in music.
