Grand Rapids Griffins’ Dominance Continues, Makes History With 40-Game Record
The Grand Rapids Griffins are throwing out the record books this season, which is saying a lot for a team that has won two Calder Cups and been in the playoffs for multiple seasons in a row. But this season has been one, quite literally, for the record books, because the Griffins have had the best record through 40 games in AHL history.

The team has been dominant, so let's take a look at what they've accomplished so far this season.
Grand Rapids Griffins' Monumental 30th Season
2026 marks the 30th year that the Grand Rapids Griffins have been in operation, and it seems the entire team has locked in to make this season as worthy of a celebration as any. The team is 32-5-2-1, giving them 67 points and a win/loss percentage of .838.

It beats the 40-game record that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins set in 2005-06 when they scored 66 points and had an .825 percentage. Almost as impressive is that they have allowed only 74 goals while scoring 139.
Griffins players have been performing so well that players have been getting called up to the Red Wings, who are also having a great season. Most recently, Sheldon Dries and Justin Holl were called up to the Red Wings, but were unfortunately recalled due to illness in the Griffins locker room. But it just reiterates how great these guys have been.
There are 32 games remaining in the regular season, with the Griffs' next match taking place on the 30th (a $2 Beer and a $2 Hot Dog night, my favorite).
