This Grand Rapids Home Has A $1 Million Organ Inside It
Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most iconic composers in history, and one of his songs, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, has become synonymous with moments of doom and horror in cinema thanks to the use of the organ.
Its use in "The Phantom of the Opera" is well known, and the atmosphere the organ creates can be seen in other movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest".

The pipe organ is a difficult instrument to learn, and even harder to own due to the space required to fit the instrument, sometimes taking up entire concert halls. So, when one Michigan man fell in love with the sound of the pipe organ and wanted one for himself, he followed his dream of owning one. All it took was converting his entire house into one giant pipe-organ enclosure to hold all 2,300 pieces.
Grand Rapids' "Organ House"
10 years ago, pipe organ appreciator Bill Tufts passed away and his home was put up for sale, giving the public their first look at the inside of the Grand Rapids "Organ House'.
The pipe organ was powered by a wind-powered. In an interview with Mark Douglas, the real estate agent selling the home, he said the organ takes up more than a third of the house and required an extension on the house to fit it all.

The craziest part about this entire endeavour is that Bill Tuft didn't know how to play the organ, despite going to these lengths to have one installed. He would invite organists over for parties to have them play for him.
It took 5 1/2 years to install all the pieces, and when the house sold to its new owner in 2015, it ended up in great hands. David Luttinen moved from Seattle to own the home and has played the organ for more than 47 years, making him a perfect fit for the home. The home reportedly sold for $90,000, but the pipe organ alone is said to be worth $1,000,000.
