Governor Rick Snyder's office confirmed that he will be the keynote speaker at the Tulip Time Festival  luncheon this week, but he won't be following tradition and sweeping the streets after the Volksparade.

Michigan Governors have walked the Volksparade sweeping the streets since the 1950s, and Governor Snyder has walked it before, but according to his office an Achilles tendon injury from last year is what's sidelining him from walking this year.

The governor's office told Tulip Time that an Achilles tendon injury Snyder suffered last year will keep him out of the Wednesday, May 11, Volksparade, festival spokeswoman Susan Zalnis said.

He has been travelling a lot, so maybe that why it has flared up again because he was able to walk the Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge last September. Nevertheless, he will be at the luncheon and then making a few stops around West Michigan on Wednesday.

With that said, if the Tulip Time Festival needs another street sweeper, I'll be more than happy to volunteer!
