If there is one thing that I have learned during this pandemic, it's that entertainment for you and your family is of the utmost importance.

Early in the pandemic, it seemed like you couldn't do anything.  Sports were cancelled, non-essential businesses were closed, and even parks had warnings about social distancing.  Now that we are little bit further into this "new normal", there are definitely more things to do, but movie theaters still aren't open and many leisure activities still have restrictions.  And, with winter coming and summer and fall outdoor activities starting to wrap up, it's time to find some new things to do for the winter.

That's why I am telling you that you need to get a library card.  I personally, haven't had one since I lived at home with parents, so I was quite surprised when I saw all that you get with a library card nowadays.  For starters, you have access to all sorts of streaming and digital services.  I got a Kent District Library Card and now I have access to the following services for free:

Kent District Library Digital Services Offered With Card

  • OverDrive (Read Magazines and eBooks, and listen to Audiobooks)
  • hoopla (Watch TV and Movies, Read Comics and eBooks, and listen to Audiobooks)
  • RBdigital (Read Magazines)
  • Freegal (Listen to music)
  • TumbleBooks (Children's digital content)

And that's just the beginning of what a library card can get you.  At Kent District Libraries, you can borrow more than just books.  Check out some of these things you can get from select branches:

Some Things You can Borrow From Kent District Library Other Than Books

  • Video Games (PS3, PS4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U,
  • CDs, Vinyls, turntables, and headphones
  • Movies on DVD and BluRay
  • GoPro Cameras
  • Video Game Consoles (Nintendo Switch)
  • iPads

And it doesn't stop there.  All of those things I've listed are just a sampling of everything your library card can get you.  You can even get a ukulele at a few locations.

So, if you are dreading being stuck indoors this winter with nothing to do during the pandemic, your next stop should be your public library so you can get a card and have endless entertainment all winter long.
