Grand Rapids vibrant food scene continues to expand!

We previously told you a Vietnamese restaurant was slated to close and a new eatery would be opening in its place - we now have more details.

Monsoon Vietnamese restaurant opened in summer of 2022 at 55 Monroe Center Ave. NW downtown Grand Rapids. Two years later it was put up for sale and purchased by husband and wife team Raphael and Jessica Jones in mid-November.

The new restaurant, a New-Orleans inspired Cajun and Creole joint called Garden District GR is now open! With Fat Tuesday on the way, here's a new joint to get help you celebrate the season.

Raphael Jones told What Now Detroit,

This will be our first restaurant, but both of us had years of experience in operations. Grand Rapids is fast growing, but there is a hole in the scene when it comes to Cajun and Creole food and we want to change that.

I gotta say, the menu looks super tasty!

Garden District GR's appetizers include Uptown BBQ Shrimp, Auduban Crawfish Beignets, and Garden District Dip (Cajun shrimp and crawfish dip served with French Bread).

You'll find a variety of salads, plus Po Boys -- options include shrimp, crawfish, catfish, and hot sausage.

Entrees include Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, Etoufee (smothered shrimp and rice), Cajun Marinated Pork Tomahawk, Fried Seafood Platter (shrimp, catfish, crawfish), Jambalaya, Bourbon Street, Steak, and more.

For sides, pick from Cajun fries, Baked Mac and Cheese, White, Rice, Coleslaw, Veggies, or Cajun Corn Maque Choux.

Garden District GR is open Monday through Thursday 11:30a.m. to 9p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:30a.m. to 10p.m., closed Sundays.
