Vice President Mike Pence can check off a couple of firsts from his weekend trip to Mackinac Island for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.  VP Pence was the first sitting Vice President to visit the island and he was also the first person to bring a motorcade to the island.

For over a hundred years, Mackinac Island has had a ban on cars except for emergency vehicles, service vehicles, and in this case, vehicles that are needed for security.

This is only the second visit to the island from either a VP or a President with the only other visit being from President Gerald R. Ford in 1975.  Ford, a Michigander, traveled the island by horse and carriage while visiting during his presidency.

The VP was greeted with onlookers as his motorcade traveled between the Grand Hotel and the island's small airport.

Of course, there were many people outraged by the presence of a motorcade on the island with even Greta Van Susteren of Fox News pointing out that this is definitely not normal.

But, is it really that big of a deal that VP Pence arrived on Mackinac with a motorcade?  Let us know by voting in the poll below.
