Hope College Graduate’s Best-Selling Novel Is Now A Netflix Movie
My favorite kind of movie is one based on a book, especially one that I've read. You can generally assume the story has to be at least semi-decent to have gained enough attention from someone to turn it into a screenplay, and then have a company drop a couple of million dollars to turn it into a movie.

It's especially a safe bet when that author is a #1 New York Times bestseller, telling a will-they-won't-they love story that spans a decade and has plenty of tension. But for someone grown here in West Michigan, it's especially awesome to see someone with ties to the area now appearing as the author behind Netflix's latest hit film.
Shoutout to you, Emily Henry.

She has since released Book Lovers, Happy Place, Funny Story, and the novel that Netflix turned into its latest film, starring Emily Bader (My Lady Jane) and Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Overall, she's sold over 7 million books since 2020.
Emily Henry is from Cincinnati, OH, but she earned her English degree from Hope College in 2012. In a 2020 interview with the college, she credited one of her writing classes with establishing the writing style that she still uses today. Her time on the lakeshore and in coastal towns is evident in her writing, which features many fictional towns along Lake Michigan.
People We Meet On Vacation was released on January 9th and is certified fresh at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. Keep an eye out for Henry sitting next to character Poppy in a certain scene at the end of the film; Henry has a cameo.
Plus, if you enjoy this movie, you can look forward to a film adaptation of Beach Read that is also in the works.
