A Year of Growth For Dr. Rolf's BBQ in Spring Lake
Dr. Rolf's BBQ in Spring Lake opened in 2024 in the former Old Boys' Brewhouse building and has quickly become a go-to for dine-in, carryout, delivery, catering, and even scenic waterfront dining. (Dr. Rolf's BBQ recently earned the title of Michigan's best spot for chili!)

Meet the Team Behind the BBQ
Owners Dr. Rolf Hissom and his wife Judy are no strangers to the lakeshore—they also run a location in Muskegon. And yes, Rolf really is a doctor who’s cared for the community for decades. Their restaurants celebrate his Appalachian roots with hearty barbecue and welcoming hospitality.
On the menus you'll find a variety of appetizers like mac n cheese brisket egg rolls, Pork sliders, chicken thighs, wings, and vegan nachos. There's also tacos, burritos, wraps, sandwiches, and of course, the meats: choose from pulled pork, sausage, smoked chicken, brisket, or ribs.

Craft Beer is On The Way
Now, the Spring Lake location is set to debut its own craft beer brewpub!
“We are excited to add something new to our barbecue venue,” Judy shares. “When we acquired the old brewery, we knew we’d eventually make use of the equipment and brew some unique beer just for our guests. Having a party seems like the perfect way to celebrate.”
