Double Amputee Marine Becomes A Police Officer In New York
A Marine vet named Matias Ferreira just became a police officer in Long Island, New York. You're probably thinking, "That happens every day. What's the big deal?" Well, Ferreira is no ordinary cop. He's a double amputee.
While serving in Afghanistan, Ferreira lost both legs from the knees down, but that didn't stop him from pursuing a career in law enforcement. He graduated from police academy on prosthetics, with no special accommodations, which is a pretty incredible accomplishment. And he may be the first-ever double amputee to become a police officer!
No matter who you are or where you're from, Matias Ferreira deserves your respect. He was injured while serving our country and now continues to serve despite his limitations.
