When I go to a Zoo like John Ball or Detroit I always save the gorilla area for last because I know I will spend quality time there.

Maybe I like the gorillas because they are the closest animal to humans and often display human-like emotions. I have seen gorillas express anger, happiness, and curiosity, and display their social order. Gorillas socialize and sometimes identify with a person looking at them through a glass enclosure. That connection could be a variety of emotions but spectacular when witnessed.

I am a big fan of watching documentaries about wild gorillas and think seeing one in the wild would be amazing. Unfortunately, Eastern and Western African gorillas are critically endangered due to poaching, deforestation, disease, civil conflict, hunting, and wildlife trade.

When cell phones are tossed in the trash and wind up in landfills, they can contaminate soil and water because they contain toxic materials like arsenic, lead, and mercury.

According to WXYZ, the Detroit Zoo is asking the public to donate their old cell phones and other electronics to help protect wild gorillas and keep landfills cleaner. Last year the Detroit Zoo collected nearly 2,800 electronic items that could be refurbished and resold with the money going to protecting wild gorillas.

The Detroit Zoo wants to collect even more cell phones and other electronics by September 1, but you can donate your devices at the zoo year-round.

Spring Arbor, Michigan's 3,000 Pound 6 Foot Concrete Gorilla

For residents and regular travelers in Mid-Michigan, the concrete gorilla, which sits off M-60 just outside of Spring Arbor, is a welcome and anticipated sight. Created by the now-closed Arbor Stone landscaping business around the year 2000, the nearly 6-foot-tall, 3000-pound statue with its raised right hand has become one of the state's iconic roadside attractions.

A Bunch of Photos of Really Cute Monkeys

I recently visited Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's a huge national park/forest that sits at the base of Mount Corcovado, where the famous Christ the Redeemer statue stands. There were monkeys everywhere, so I started snapping photos of nearly every one I saw.
