Many Detroit Tigers fans woke up to some shocking news Friday morning - fan favorite pitcher Justin Verlander was traded to the Houston Astros for three prospects right before the trade deadline.

The Tigers apparently decided to purge their team of Justins on August 31. Earlier in the day, they traded outfielder Justin Upton to the Los Angeles Angels. Verlander even chimed in on Upton's trade on Twitter (even using a "heartbroken" emoji.)

In a deal with the Chicago Cubs, the Tigers traded away left-handed relief pitcher Justin Wilson (along with Alex Avila) roughly a month before the Verlander trade was agreed upon.

WZZM-13 reports that the Astros and Tigers had been in talks about the Verlander trade for some time, but in the end it was up to Verlander to wave his no-trade clause, which he did late Thursday night.

Many Tigers fans have tweeted their support for Verlander in the trade, saying that they hope that this means that Verlander will finally get a World Series win.

With the departures of Verlander, Upton, and Wilson, the Detroit roster is now completely Justin-less. Justin Verlander had pitched for the Tigers for 13 seasons, while Upton and Wilson had both been around for two seasons.
