Or did they? Sure, they dropped two out of three games this weekend to the Baltimore Orioles, but now their tanking mission may be complete.

The two most miserable teams in the Major Leagues this season have been the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles, so when they hooked up at Comerica Park for a three game set this weekend it was dubbed 'The World Series of Misery'.

The Orioles took two out of three from the Tigers to win the series (okay, they have one more game to play, but really, who cares?), but the Tigers now are in line to land the number one draft pick. So maybe they are the big winners.

The Tigers currently own the worst record in baseball at 44-104, and are in the drivers seat now (barring a weird sudden desire to actually win a few games) to land baseball's number one draft pick.

Detroit’s “magic number” to clinch the No. 1 pick is now 10, and could move as low as eight (with 13 games to play) if the Orioles win Monday’s series finale.

Here's a list of guys they could get with that pick if they play like crap the rest of the year:

  • Spencer Torkelson, Arizona State, first baseman
  • Emerson Hancock, Georgia, pitcher
  • Austin Hendrick, West Allegheny High School, outfield
  • Austin Martin, Vanderbilt, infield
  • Mick Abel, Beaverton (OR) Jesuit High School, pitcher.

Keep On Tanking, Tigers!!
