The Detroit Sports Commission has canceled the 2020 Prep Kickoff Classic scheduled for August 27-29 in Detroit. Two West Michigan teams were set to play in the event.

The event was to feature two games a day involving teams from across the state over the three day period. The Classic was to be played at Wayne State University's Tom Adams Field in Detroit.

Two West Michigan schools were scheduled to play in the classic on Saturday, August 29.

Grandville was to have played highly regarded Cass Tech out of Detroit at 1pm, while Muskegon Mona Shores, last season's defending Division 2 champions, were scheduled to play River Rouge at 4pm.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association on Wednesday pushed back full pads practice to August 17, with a decision expected on the rest of the season anticipated on August 20.

Several Michigan schools, including Grandville's Calvin Christian have already announced they will not play in 2020 because of the novel coronavirus.
