The Detroit Lions’ Odd Superstition Has Led To Their Record-Setting Season
The Lions are currently the best team in the NFL, a statement no one would have ever believed even two years ago when the Lions went 3-13-1. Yet, here they are. Playoff bound, on an 11-game win streak, and are currently the betting favorites as Super Bowl Champions.
Many credit this success to Dan Campbell and the culture change that has taken place inside the organization, but their success this season could be credited to something else entirely: superstition.

The Lions' Uniforms
According to the Detroit Lions uniform website, the Lions have four different uniforms they could use throughout the year. Their home "One Pride" jerseys featured the signature color "Honolulu Blue", their away "The 313" jerseys, their "Motor City Muscle" alternate jerseys, and a throwback uniform dubbed "The Classic".
The team is able to wear a variation of these uniform colors, so they could have blue jerseys and choose between white, silver, or blue pants to match, and vice versa for the other uniforms. However, any keen Lions fan will notice a certain trend that has persisted all season.
"Monolulu Blue"
Despite having plenty of uniform variations the team could be using, the Lions have stuck to only rocking what fans have dubbed the "Monolulu Blues" jerseys. "Mono-" meaning "one", the Lions have only worn one color (Honolulu blue jersey/pants/helmet, white jersey/pants/helmet) rather than displaying the full range of colors.

The team didn't even pull out their throwback uniforms for their biggest game of the year on Thanksgiving. As reported by Uni Watch, this could be because the team's only loss of the season came the one time they were wearing a mono-colored uniform.
The team's new "standard" uniform revealed this year has been anything but standard, considering it has made only one appearance all year. Every time the Lions have been "Mono", they've won. Whether there is real credence to this belief will show itself if the Lions end up losing again this year. If not, we may never know if there is a uniform superstition.
