Listen to This Deathcore Cover of Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’
Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" is a universal smash hit. For as much grief as headbangers give pop music, a metal cover of a current top song is an inevitability and, here, we're spotlighting Toli Wild, who arranged a deathcore cover of the breakout track by Eilish.
This take on "Bad Guy" starts off atmospheric with delayed guitar effects, giving this song a wholly different vibe than the original. It's clear Toli Wild weren't just looking to do a cheap imitation of merely swapping beats and synths for heavily distorted guitar and gut-churning guttural roars. Slowing down the tempo and ditching Eilish's cadence almost entirely, it's difficult to even recognize this as the same song, which is a testament to the group's creativity.
We know you all heard "Bad Guy" for the first time and thought, "Yeah, that's a great song, but where's the breakdown so I can elbow someone in the throat?" Vengeance strikes at the 2:18 mark in the video below.
What's the most surprising about this year isn't that Tool finally released a new album — it's that metalheads have taken a liking to Billie Eilish. They've flocked to comments sections on social media to quickly strike down anyone talking trash about the 17-year-old pop sensation, defending her as the legitimately talented artist she is. Maybe it's because Eilish is a professed fan of rock and metal, has a death metal logo beanie, or maybe these silly genre wars are finally coming to an end. Regardless, we're proud of you all. Keep up the great work, everyone.
Oh, and you can add this cover to your playlist on Spotify so you can freak out some unsuspecting friends in the car.
