Michigan's Rules Regarding Concussions in School Sports
The state of Michigan requires any student-athlete suspected of having a concussion to be immediately removed from play, and they cannot return until they receive written clearance from an appropriate health professional.
All Michigan schools with athletic programs are required to:
Provide concussion awareness training for coaches and other adults involved in sports,
Distribute educational materials about concussions to athletes and their parents,
Keep signed acknowledgment forms from athletes and written clearance forms from healthcare professionals.
The rules apply to all school physical activities, including physical education classes, sports, and camps.

Local Athlete Hurt After Being Tackled By Coach
According to WOOD TV, a West Ottawa Middle School student was tackled by his coach during football practice and is now recovering from a concussion. The team was working on some pass coverage drills when the coach said, "Let me show you how to stop this person from catching the ball," and that is when the coach tackled the 13-year-old kid.

The coach was let go shortly after the incident but the student has been taking heat from his peers who blame him for the coach's actions. Still, some parents have called for the coach to be reinstated.
The student’s mother has since filed a police report and is waiting for further action.
