As of January 25, Chateau Grand Rapids is open at at 955 Cherry St. The building previously housed the bookstore Books and Mortar before it moved to another location on Cherry St.

The owners Chris and Allaire Swart, who are originally from Michigan, but have lived in many other places, tell MLive their goal is to bring a new experience to West Michigan:

Our travels and interest in wine and coffee kind of made it a passion project for us. We knew we wanted to move back to Michigan, but we wanted to start something new, just the two of us, and we saw a need for that in Grand Rapids — there’s constantly new, cool places popping up.

For now, Chateau Grand Rapids is serving coffee only while they await their liquor license.

The coffee lineup will refresh each week, as they've partnered with Sey Coffee out of New York that sources seasonal, micro-lot coffees that sell out quickly.

They offer a full espresso bar, three coffees on pour over, and eleven coffees to take home.

Grand Rapids' bakery Field and Fire is providing Chateau Grand Rapids with fresh pastries daily.

The owners say,

On the wine front, we can’t wait to bring you beautiful bottles and bites from around the world. More to come on grand opening for that soon.

According to MLive, Chateau Grand Rapids is gratuity free. Allaire tells MLive,

We believe the employer should be responsible for paying their employees a livable wage instead of getting paid through tips. So, that’s really important for us to implement that into our business.
