Water Main Break In Dearborn Completely Freezes Cars
To no one's surprise, it has been insanely cold the last week—freezing, record-breaking cold. The Arctic Blast brought cold air from the North Pole across much of the country, from Michigan to Maine to Florida (yes, Florida. Imagine going South to escape the cold only for the cold to follow you back. Horrible.)
When temperatures drop as low as they did, a major concern is that the pipes in your home and around the city may freeze and burst. This happens when the water in the pipes freezes and expands, bursting the pipes. Here in Grand Rapids, I had to call in a pipe burst in the middle of the street at 4 am. However, no one was around for this.

That was not the case for these unfortunate souls, whose cars were frozen solid under a thick layer of ice after a water main broke in Dearborn.

The water main break took place in Sterling Heights on Monroe Street, coating the vehicles in water. The low on Wednesday, January 22nd was -2 degrees. Obviously, nothing is going to be melting in these conditions, so these cars were frozen in place. Look how THICK the ice on this car is. You may need an ice pick because no ice scrapper is going to get that off,
The cars needed to be manually broken out of the ice and lifted to a garage to de-ice.

Two other cars were frozen over, but not as bad as this SUV. The comments on the Instagram post were pretty funny:
"Imagine being at your sneaky link house in this happens."
"Jake from State Farm, you aren't going to believe this."
"Boss still want u to come in"
Any potential damages to the cars would need to be figured out with the City, but these cars most likely just need some time to melt their new outer layer,
