Apparently The Supreme Court Doesn’t Care About Renters

If you are a renter who lost your job during the pandemic and need the eviction moratorium to continue, well the Supreme Court said screw you.

According to WOOD, the Supreme Court's conservative majority is allowing evictions to resume across the United States therefore blocking the Biden administration from enforcing a temporary ban that was installed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Now 3.5 million people across the United States may become homeless because of this and that includes people right here in West Michigan. Not everybody got to work from home, many people outright just lost their jobs and were never called back.

If you have 3.5 million become homeless that alone will create problems but also will fuel crime.

The Supreme Court said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did not have the authority to reimpose the moratorium as of August 3. The court went on to say the only was the eviction moratorium will continue is Congress must authorize it.

The delta variant is affecting 90% of the country and when cold season breaks this fall, there is a possibility of another shut down if everyone doesn't get vaccinated soon.

Currently the administration has asked state and local governments to issue their own moratoriums to discourage eviction filings. The current moratorium will expire October 3 unless Congress can get something through the house.

If you are still unemployed and renting, you better do whatever you can to try and find a new job because unless Congress steps up, the eviction moratorium will be going away.
