A lawsuit filed against Amazon suggests that their Alexa devices was illegally recording children in eight states, including Michigan.

The lawsuit was brought on by a 10-year-old girl in Seattle and says that because Amazon didn't ask for consent [from the child or parent] they broke recording laws in the following states:  Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. Regardless of age, a person has to allow to be recorded in these states.

Alexa recognizes voices so if a new voice is heard, Amazon can ask for consent from the person who owns the device... what they failed to do according to the lawsuit. They're also being accused of permanently saving the voice recordings, via The Seattle Times:

...Alexa devices record and transmit any speech captured after a “wake word” activates the device, regardless of the speaker...

The lawsuit only includes minors in the eight states who would all receive damages if the company is found guilty. The hope is that the judge will force Amazon to delete all the recordings & prevent any future recordings without permission.
