Lyft Lawsuit Filed After Minor Driven to Alleged Predator
It's common for adults to use ride-share services, but there are strict rules for minors. One Michigan mother is suing a ride-service for driving a 14-year-old to an alleged sexual predator.
Ride-Share Policies for Minors
Both Lyft and Uber have rules that require passengers to be at least 18-years-old and have their own account to book a ride. If a driver suspects a passenger is a minor, they can ask for an ID, and reserve the right to cancel the trip.
Both ride-share giants do offer accounts for teens ages 13-17, but have to be invited by a parent or guardian. Parents are the ones to set up and manage the account, and can track the rides in real times, get notifications, and see driver info.

Suit: Lyft Driver Brought Underage Girl to Alleged Sexual Predator
According to WXYZ, a Brighton, Michigan, mother is suing Lyft because one of its drivers drove a minor to an alleged sexual predator. The minor was a 14-year-old girl the family claimed was given drugs, forced to take nude photos, and was sexually assaulted in 2023. The man is said to be in his 20s and was the one who ordered the ride-share to pick the girl up and bring her to him.
The mother has her daughters phone on Life 360 which allows her real-time tracking of family members. The mother was worried while tracking her daughters phone and when she tried to call it was shut off. The daughters friend told the mom her daughter was on her way to Dearborn Heights to meet the man she met on the dating app Wizz that has since been removed from Apple and Google stores in 2014.

The man who allegedly assaulted the young girl is believed to have left the country and is in Morocco. Criminal charges have been filed with a warrant for the man's arrest. Lyft has yet to make a comment while police still try to locate the suspect.
