A New Service Could be Delivering Groceries in Minutes in Grand Rapids Soon

Sure, same day delivery is great... but what if you need diapers like NOW? Or beer? (Sure, beer emergencies are a thing...) Well, a new delivery service could be coming to the Grand Rapids area that offers delivery of daily essentials within minutes.

Wood TV 8 reports that signs are pointing to Gopuff, a micro-fulfillment and delivery service, moving into and renovating the former Family Video store at 5255 Eastern Ave. SE  in Kentwood.

While a rep from Gopuff hasn't confirmed the plans, Wood TV 8 found a building permit application indicating that Gopuff group is planning $30,000 in renovations at the old video store. Wood TV 8 also found job listings on Gopuff's website for locations in Kentwood, Grand Rapids, and Muskegon.

What exactly is Gopuff?

Gopuff delivers food, alcohol, cleaning supplies, health and beauty supplies, over-the-counter medication and more in minutes; while their is no "guaranteed" delivery time, Gopuff says the average delivery time is half and hour.

How do they deliver so fast?

Right? That's what I want to know! Gopuff says they store about 3,000 products in their micro-fulfillment centers (like the one that *may* be coming to the old Family Video in Kentwood). So when you order, your stuff comes directly from Gopuff -- they don't have to go to the store to get it.

How much is it?

There's $1.95 flat rate delivery on all orders, with no surge pricing.

How long has Gopuff been around?

According to Gopuff's website, two students at Drexel University in Philadelphia started the company in 2014. Since then, they've expanded to more than 650 cities, including Ann Arbor, Detroit, Kalamazoo, and Lansing.

Honestly, I was kind of surprised to hear they're in Michigan since I'd never heard of Gopuff before!
