New Comfort Food Restaurant Coming to Grand Rapids Creston Neighborhood

A local restaurant owner is expanding with a new eatery. This time around, he's branching out with a different style of food.

Thaer Abel Al-Abboudi owns two Mediterranean restaurants in the Grand Rapids area that serve up kabobs, shawarma, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, fattoush, tabbouleh, and more. In 2020, he opened 616 Kabob Stop Express in Allendale. A second restaurant, 616 Kabob Stop, opened at 2232 Plainfield Ave NE in the Creston Neighborhood in 2023.

Not far away from the Plainfield Ave. eatery, Al-Abboudi is planning to open up a new American comfort food restaurant, Crain's Grand Rapids reports.

The new takeout joint is called 616 Batter Mix and it will serve "fresh, crispy, and flavorful fried chicken and fish"  made with a signature batter that is "crafted to perfection, ensuring a golden crunch that complements the tender, juicy meat inside."

You'll find a variety of options, from boneless and traditional wings to classic fish fillets, all cooked to order.

According to Crain's Grand Rapids, the menu will also include sides like fried pickles, fried okra, and macaroni and cheese.

616 Batter Mix at 2468 Plainfield Ave NE is set to open later this month.
