Trick or Treating in Michigan Can Be Challenging
I remember being a kid and trying to get the perfect Halloween costume but more importantly, it was to gather as much candy as possible with my lifelong friend Alan.

The weather was a bit different in the 70s and 80s and when it came to Halloween we never knew what it would be like until the night of.

3 of the Worst Halloweens Ever In Michigan
I experienced a few bad Halloweens trick or treating but two of the worst in Michigan were before my time and the other I was a touring musician performing a concert somewhere in the United States when the third worst occurred.
#3 Halloween in 1875
Halloween began being celebrated in the United States in the 1800s. Halloween did not get popular until 1875. This Halloween was before electricity and before the holiday became what it is today. Unfortunately that year it was 33 degrees and it down poured 2 inches of rain making it impossible for kids to celebrate outdoors.
#2 Halloween in 1917
Halloween in 1917 is much closer to home if you lived in West Michigan. This was the coldest Halloween on record for those who live in the Grand Rapids area. It was 32 degrees and snowed nearly 2 inches.
#1 Halloween in 1994
I lived on the east side of Michigan in 1994 but spent most of my time on the road as a touring musician since I was past my years of trick or treating. This was the year Grand Rapids got its wettest Halloween when the city was pelted in a downpour of rain. Over an inch and a quarter of rain happened in West Michigan that Halloween. This limited trick-or-treaters to almost none unless you had rain gear and fearless parents.
