A 24-story high rise could be coming downtown Grand Rapids, across from Van Andel Arena.

Wheeler Development Group wants to construct a mixed-use space at 22 Ottawa NW, which is currently a city-owned parking lot.

According to MLive,

Located across from Van Andel Arena, the city-owned property under consideration is currently home to a small surface parking lot and the city’s Ottawa/Fulton parking ramp. The proposed building would be built on the surface lot portion of the property, which is about 17,400 square feet in size... The building, which would connect to the Ottawa/Fulton parking ramp, is estimated to cost about $55 million to develop."

The building would contain apartments, condos, a parking garage, retail, and office space.

The plan will be presented to the City Commission on Tuesday, January 21.

Jason Wheeler, a spokesperson for Wheeler Development Group told MLive,

"We’re honored to have been considered for this project... That site itself is really exciting to us mainly because the way it will continue to activate our arena district.”

If approved, the project could begin in the fall 2020 and take approximately two and a half years to complete.
