You’ll Be Surprised By the Number Of Weekly Recommended Alcoholic Drinks
If you are a regular drinker of alcoholic beverages you may be surprised what experts are recommending you consume each week.
Are Michiganders Heavy Drinkers?
People celebrate and cope with stress in many different ways. There are a lot of Michiganders who choose alcohol to celebrate or cope with stress, but are we heavy drinkers?
The pandemic certainly increased Michigander's drinking habits. Many people were finding themselves with too much idle time, being stuck at home with no place to go, plus the stress that goes along with the unknown of a major crisis.
It turns out that Michiganders who do drink regularly have been averaging 18 drinks per week exceeding the recommended amount by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines. This elevated amount of drinking has made Michigan a top 10 state for consuming alcohol.
What Is the Current Recommended Number of Drinks Per Week?
The USDA has recommended guidelines for eating and drinking a variety of different items. These recommendations change over time as scientists, doctors, and researchers lead these decisions to improve to benefit our health.
The current recommendation for how much alcohol we drink in a week is 14 drinks for men and 7 drinks for women but those numbers are about to change drastically.
New Proposed Recommendations For How Many Drinks Per Week
You may want to adjust your planner on how many drinks per week you have moving forward. According to WOOD, in 2025 the national guidelines for alcohol consumption will be reviewed, and since alcohol does not offer any benefits to one's health the new recommendation will be a two-drink minimum per week and not per day.
