Yoopers Reveal the Best Pasties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula
Planning a trip to the U.P.? Discover where Yoopers go for the best pasties, from hidden gems to popular favorites.
What is a Pasty?
If you’re wondering what the heck a pasty is, it’s a handheld meat pie that includes potatoes, onions, and a variety of meats, often beef and pork, but also chicken, bacon, pizza, or even a vegetarian option. After a day of hunting or fishing, a pasty always hits the spot.
One of my favorite things to do after I cross the Mackinac Bridge and land in the Upper Peninsula is to begin my quest to find the perfect pasty. When I visit my best friend Curt, who lives in Iron River, I usually stop at a local pasty shop he turned me on to, but I always try to find a place I've never been to try one of their pasties.

Locations for the Best Pasties in U.P. From Yoopers
When you're going somewhere unfamiliar, it's always helpful to get recommendations from a local about the best places to visit. Recently, some Yoopers chimed in on Reddit with some of the best places to get a good pasty in the Upper Peninsula.
The same poster also mentioned a VFW in Wakefield as having the best pasties, but no longer makes them.
Maybe the person who worked at the VFW in the previous post opened Randall's Bakery since they are both in Wakefield? Plus, if Weird Al says it's good, it must be.
Two suggestions from a guy whose Reddit handle is "bonesausage" — he probably knows his pasties.
I have to second the Pasty Corner in Iron River, so far on my quest for the best, they are still my favorite.
There are a few names on here already mentioned in the thread, but this poster knows his pasties and added some other great places to grab a good one.
This might be a good stop if you have a few people with you who don't want to try a pasty.
I'm always a fan of what can be found off the beaten path. I just saved that lead into my phone for my next visit to the U.P.
