Most Michiganders refer to the Upper Peninsula as "God's Country." It is one of the most beautiful places in the world with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Mackinac Island, and Isle Royale National Park, to name a few.
Like many places in the United States, some times of the year are better than others to visit certain locations, depending on the season. In the Upper Peninsula, it's bug season with blackflies, deerflies, gnats, mosquitoes, ticks, and more.

Recently, posters on the Upper Peninsula Reddit page have been commenting on how bad the bugs are in the U.P. this year. Below are a few of their comments.

Wind plays a part in the bug problems in the U.P., and sometimes it can be your friend.
Many bug sprays, like Off, are not enough when you go to the U.P. The suggestion of "Native Sisters Don't Bug Me Body Butter" is a great tip from a Yooper.
